I Always Gets Nightmares of Social Media Data Security

I know social media is dominating the world but is also doming the world as well. That is because you will find fake news, propaganda, fake accounts, hackers, data threats, and scams on social media platforms too. That’s why I always make sure what I am sharing with people and on my social media handle.

The Bad Sides of Social Media Platforms

Social media platforms are very useful for us, but they have many bad sides, which are:

1. Closed Groups

One of the potential bad sides of social media platforms is closed groups. A number of big social media platforms have lots of closed groups where people share their personal information in the hope of finding some solution to their problems. For example, in Facebook medical closed groups, people share their personal problems. But there is a number of cases found in the investigation that those groups stole their personal data. At the same time, there are many investigations also show that Facebook also uses your personal info and sells them to companies who can use your data to determine the demand for their products and services.

2. Fake Profile

It’s a fact that millions of people are using social media platforms with fake IDs and information. Those aren’t real accounts, but they free use social media. Many criminals also use these platforms so they can target individuals and get their personal data so that they can use those data for many purposes. One of the most potential purposes would be blackmailing or using your info for conducting various crimes.

3. Spam, Viruses, and Malware

Social media platforms are the most suitable options for people to spread spam, viruses, and malware. People nowadays trust anyone and click on anything that their friend or social media contact shares. But all things that are shared by users are not secure. It could be a scam or malware. Suppose one of your social media contacts has shared a link with you where he mentioned you are in the video. You click on that, and a pop-up window appears that requires your login info. Now, you don’t have any reason not to trust your friend, so you give type the info. But all the info is gathered by some anonymous person that can now be used to blackmail or hack your account.

4. Opening Bank Account or Credit Cards

It’s highly possible and happened with people before where hackers had opened a bank account with other people’s names and info, and they even got the loan. Now, if other users get enough of your data, you’re your security number, name, address, and birth date, then you will be able to get a credit card and open a bank account in your name easily. They will be able to get the loan on your card, which is not a good thing.

5. Business Scam

Sometimes people share their business ideas on social media and state that they need people for their business, and they will give them a good return if they invest in their business. But when someone puts his money on there. The anonymous person just vanishes without any trace.
Social media are great for connecting with others and promoting ideas and business. But they are also filled with scams, threats, malware, and hackers. So, be aware of what you are sharing.
